About Me

Personal

My name is Manfred Kratochvil
I was born in Vienna in 1971 and grew up in this beautiful city as well.

I've always been fascinated by photos. They tell stories and capture moments that would otherwise fade from memory.

A photo doesn't have to be technically perfect. What's much more important is that it invites you to linger, that space and time seem to come together to evoke emotions and thoughts.

For me, photography is a way to express how I perceive the world.

Reducing the colors to shades of gray reveals what is essential.

Anyone can take a picture. Even a camera. But not everyone can observe.
Photography is art only insofar as it makes use of the art of observation.
Observation is a fundamentally poetic process.
Reality, too, must be shaped if one wants to make it speak. – Friedrich Dürrenmatt
